Florence A. Funk (nee Meyer)

Florence A. Funk (nee Meyer), 96, of the town of Polk, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls.

Florence was born March 31, 1913, in Milwaukee to Gustav and Mary (nee Sowinski) Meyer. She was united in marriage to Albert Funk on Oct. 21, 1933, in Slinger.

Florence was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Slinger. She moved to the Slinger area from Milwaukee where they farmed. She worked for Carbon Engineering in Slinger for many years. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her Christmas butter horns and her dumplings. She loved to share stories and reminisce over old family pictures. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family meant absolutely everything to her.

Florence is survived by her son, Albert Jr. (significant other Dorothy “Dottie” Blish); her grandchildren, Jeanie (Mike) Becker, Tom (Sue) Funk and Keith Funk, all of Slinger; her greatgrandchildren, Amanda, Adam, Sarah (Dustin), Corey and Nikki; and her sister, Mildred Ashby of Texas. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, Joe Merten and Lorraine Merten and other friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents; and her daughter-in-law, Donna.

Mass of Christian burial for Florence will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church Slinger with the Rev. Rick Stoffel officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at the church only from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, Slinger.
