Eugene J. Gengler, 92

Eugene J. Gengler, 92, of West Bend, died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1917, in Medford, to the late Anton and Catherine (nee Bodewin) Gengler. On October 16, 1943, he was united in marriage to Genevieve M. Higgins in Medford. Genevieve predeceased Aug. 23, 1999.

In 1952, the family moved to Milwaukee, where they lived until settling in West Bend three years later. Eugene worked as a construction laborer for various area companies. He was a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North American Local 113.

He enjoyed many different hobbies and past-times. In addition to telling stories and reminiscing about times past, he enjoyed spending time fishing, woodworking, gardening and canning.

Survivors include three children, Mary (Michael) Maeder and Phillip (Marjorie), both of West Bend, and Michael (Adrianne) of Beaver Dam; 12 grandchildren, Laura (Rafael) Vela, Aaron Maeder, Brad (Ann) Maeder, Michelle (Bradford) Davison, Rochelle (Tod) Whitman, Adam (Nicole) Gengler, Cynthia Leneau, Jeanine Leaneau, Laura (Erik) Arnold, Sherman Gengler, Sarah Gengler and Nicholas Gengler; 22 greatgrandchildren, Cassandra, Jordan, Leah and Madeline Schlueter, Andrea, Francesca and Caroline Vela, Emma Maeder, Mason and Jamen Maeder, Maria (Reuben) Schrock, Sierra Blaschuk, Darrien Willems, Michael Pilgrim, Isabelle and Alan Arnold, Hayden and Grace Davison, Cole and Alex Gengler, and Agibail and Tyler Whitman; three sisters-inlaw and four brothers-inlaw, Lorraine Gengler of Medford, Glen (Delores) Higgins of Medford, Florence (Malen) Warczypowa of Medford, Wilford Butler of Withee, Marie Nelson of Phillips, Richard (Irene) Higgins of Medford and Roger (Faye) Higgins of Medford; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Catherine Brown, Theresa Zeman, Isabelle Sigmund, Anthony Gengler, Matt Gengler and Delores Sigmund.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with burial following in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church only on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

The family has requested Masses or memorials to the Holy Angels School Trust Fund.
