John Walter Zinecker, 70

John Walter Zinecker, 70, died Friday evening of a heart attack while cross country skiing at Brown Deer Park. John, a lifelong athlete, had been skiing at the park, on the Milwaukee River and at other area trails throughout the winter.

During the warmer months, he enjoyed musky fishing and traveled to Boulder Junction several times each year. He was an avid tennis player and participated on numerous state league teams.

The retired owner of a Port Washington Road car repair business, John could still be found working with the shop’s new owners and visiting with his former customers several days each week. He previously operated shops in Brown Deer and Whitefish Bay and started his career as the youngest owner of an Enco (later Exxon) franchise in Milwaukee.

John was a graduate of Messmer High School and a member of Lumen Christi parish in Mequon.

He is survived by his wife, Trudy; and daughters, Jennifer Sereno (David), Madison, and Elizabeth Zinecker, College Park, Md. His adoring grandchildren include Gina and Jeff Sereno and Bryce Zinecker Dubayah. He is further survived by brothers, Jim and Walt Zinecker, their families and loving friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 8, at 10 a.m.. at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2700 W. Mequon Road, at the corner of N. Range Line Road in Mequon. A reception will follow. Visitation will be held Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
