Wilma Catherine Clasen passed away peacefully on Thursday March 4, 2010, at the Harbor Club in Port Washington at the age of 94 years.
Wilma Catherine was born on Oct. 27, 1915, to William and Annie Hennings Hovener at home on the farm in Lakefield, town of Grafton, and lived most of her entire life on that farm. She was the youngest of three daughters. Her sisters, Sylvia and Evelyn, preceded her in death. She was baptized into the Christian faith on Nov. 21, 1915, and later confirmed on March 24, 1929, at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Grafton.
On June 27, 1936, she married Gerhard Clasen at St. Johnís Lutheran Church. They had two children, Barbara Ann and Jerald. Jerald preceded her in death in 1973 at the age of 28. Her husband, Gerhard, preceded her in death in 1978 at the age of 64.
She continued to farm the homestead with the help of area teenage boys until 1979 when Neal Maciejewski came to take over running the farm and continued to do so for many years.
She was a 4-H member and food leader for 20 years, Lakefield Homemaker for 50 years, a lifetime member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church and a choir member for 50 years. Wilma and Gerhard provided the land where St. Johnís Lutheran Church currently exists.
She was also active in a birthday club and a card club for a number of years. She liked to travel and made trips to Europe, Hawaii, Florida, Canada and California as well as other places during her lifetime.
Wilma is survived by her daughter, Barbara (the Rev. Marvin) Ehnen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Judy (Ron) LaPean of Grafton; grandchildren, Mark (Denise) Ehnen of Roseville, Calif., Cathy Ehnen of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Michelle) Clasen of Grafton and Deborah (Pete) Stich of Geneva, Ill. She is further survived by seven great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Extended family includes Neal and Heidi Maciejewski, their two children and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held today March 9, at 7 p.m. at St. Johnís Lutheran Church, 1193 Lakefield Road, Grafton. Interment will be at Lakefield Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
