Helen Klemp, 93
Helen Klemp (nee Deppisch), 93, of West Bend, died on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born on March 17, 1916, in Port Washington to the late Alois and Kate (nee Biever) Deppisch. She moved with her family to Milwaukee at an early age, and graduated from Holy Angels Academy High School. Following graduation she worked as a seamstress at Phoenix Hosiery Co.
She was united in marriage to Oliver "Ollie" Klemp at St. Leo’s in Milwaukee on Oct. 19, 1938. They moved to West Bend in 1948, where they owned and operated Electric Motor Service until their retirement in 1976, at which time they moved to Cape Coral, Fla. After Ollie’s death on Nov. 12, 1987, Helen moved back to West Bend in 1989.
She was very active as a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 732, having served as Senior Regent, and obtaining the College of Regents, Academy of Friendship and Star Recorder Degrees. She was also a charter member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, was a member of the Christian Mothers and volunteered at the Samaritan Home and Hospital.
While living in Florida, Helen was introduced to Japanese Bunka embroidery. Her keen ability and artistry with this beautiful craft was quickly recognized and Helen soon began teaching others. She enjoyed sharing her skills.
She is survived by her son, Bill (Nancy) of Oconomowoc; and daughter, Mary (Joe) Kadunc of New Berlin. She was a loving "Granny" to grandchildren Stephanie (Tom) Janicki, Andy (Victoria) Klemp, Rachel (Mike) Klemp-North, Anda Klemp, Katie and Jim Kadunc; and great-grandchildren, Emma, John, Zander, Lexi, Lia and, very recently, Cayden. She is further survived by brother-in-law, Roger Klemp; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver; her son, Bob; her sister, Adele Kirkland; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 1025 S. 7th Ave, West Bend. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Interment will take place at Coral Ridge Cemetery in Cape Coral on Friday, March 26, at 10 a.m.
