Raymond F. Bernier, 83|

Raymond F. Bernier, 83, of West Bend, was called home to his Lord on Monday, March 29, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend.

He was born on June 18, 1926, in Milwaukee to the late John Bernier and Lucille Rohde. Ray served our country honorably during World War II by enlisting in the U.S. Army. Upon his return from the service, Ray began working for the Milwaukee Rail Road as a car inspector until his retirement.

Ray was united in marriage to Ardice Heumann on Sept. 17, 1949, at Siloah Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Together they moved to West Bend 21 years ago and became members of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ray enjoyed mowing the lawn and working in his garden. He also enjoyed gambling at Ho-Chunk Casino.

Ray is survived by his two daughters, Lori (Alan) Zastrow of West Bend and Jodee (Michael) Riggs of Oconomowoc; his granddaughter, Michelle Kaye of West Bend; close relatives, Marilyn Duley and Joe McCartan; his good friend, Jim Grosskoph; and many other relatives and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother.

A memorial service in honor of Ray will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home in West Bend. The Rev. John Paustion will officiate and burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
