Edward Kleist, 96


A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010, at 4 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, for Edward Kleist, who died on May 16, 2010, at the Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg at the age of 96. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Interment will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Grafton.

Edward was born on Dec. 27, 1913, in Grafton to Jacob Kleist and Louise (nee Bartsch) Kleist. He later married Helen Ahlers on Sept. 10, 1938, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters.

Edward was a lifelong active member at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He also worked for Grob Inc. in Grafton as a shipping and receiving clerk for over 38 years. After his retirement from Grob Inc., Edward assisted at Mueller Furniture Store and Mueller Funeral Homes.

Edward is survived by his daughters, Kathleen (Harold) Oppermann and Lorna (Donald) Pitzer; grandchildren, Dawn (Kurt) Zirtzlaff, Wendy (Rodny) Otto, Douglas (Rebecca) Oppermann, Cami (Michael) Whitt, and Angela Pitzer; great-grandchildren, Justin (Angela) Zirtzlaff, Danielle (Curt) Hafemeister, Trenton Otto, Anthony Otto, Courtney Otto, Emma Oppermann, Evan Oppermann, and Eric Oppermann; great-great-grandchildren, Joshua and Hailey Hafemeister; and brother, Jake (Marion) Kleist.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kleist; his parents, Jacob and Louise Kleist; brother, Fred (Wilma) Kleist; and sisters, Laura (Grant) Hill and Caroline (Sigfred) Simonsen.

The family would like to especially thank the wonderful staff and caregivers on 2 West at Lasata Care Center and Heartland Hospice for all of their care and compassion.
