Leo Jerome Van Beek, 55
Leo Jerome Van Beek, 55, of Waupun, died Monday, May 24, 2010, after a courageous battle with Shy-Drager Syndrome.
Leo was born in West Bend on Dec. 13, 1954, the son of Clarence and Leona Schneider Van Beek. Leo grew up on a farm where he learned the values of hard work and dedication from his parents and siblings. Kind and magnanimous, loving of his family and faithful to his religion, Leo was one of the sweetest and most generous men anyone could know. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, magna cum laude with majors in economics and journalism. He worked as a journalist for many years and then held several positions with the State of Wisconsin.
Leo will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Bridget; two loving sons, Danny and Brian, of whom he was so proud; his parents, Clarence and Leona Van Beek; his sister, Mary (Jim) Brodzeller; his brothers, Jim (Sue) Van Beek, the Rev. Alois Van Beek, Gerald Van Beek, Howard Van Beek, Earl Van Beek and Sylvester (Pat) Van Beek; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donny and Rayner Van Beek.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waupun with the Rev. Michael Sturm and the Rev. Alois Van Beek officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waupun. Relatives and friends may call on the family on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
