Francis J. Matenaer, 82

Francis J. Matenaer, 82, of the town of Barton died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

He was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Barton to the late Edwin and Marie (nee Staehler) Matenaer and married Elizabeth J. "Betty" Hefter on May 25, 1949, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nenno.

Francis was a bulk milk carrier for Kraft before working at Bermico for 28 years. He was then employed at the West Bend Country Club, Slinger Manufacturing and ABS.

He enjoyed gardening, playing cards – especially Sheepshead – and spending time with family and friends.

Francis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; four children, Marilyn (Richard) Muraski of West Bend, Gerri Matenaer of Kewaskum, Mark (Carol) of West Bend and Donna Matenaer of West Bend; five grandchildren, John (Laura) Muraski, Andrew (Tessa) Muraski, AnneLissa (fiancé, Nick Gehring) Muraski, Kyle Matenaer and Ryan Matenaer; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Muraski, Emma Muraski and Kaya Bolle-Muraski. He is further survived by his siblings, Leona (Allan) Batzler of West Bend, Norman (Gene) Matenaer of West Bend, Steve (Margaret) Matenaer of West Bend, Mary (Paul) Wassingberg of Menomonee Falls and Carol (Donald) Winninghoff of Woodruff; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Estelle Matenaer of Kewaskum, Annabelle Sauer of Thorp, John Hefter of Lomira, Thomas (Lorraine) Hefter of Allenton, Doris Hefter of Allenton, Cecelia "Tootie" Hefter of West Bend and Darlene Hefter of Allenton; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Marie; an infant son, David; his sister, Adeline Volm; his brother, Ralph Matenaer; and seven brothers-in-law, Roman Hefter, Donald Hefter, Dennis Hefter, Art Sauer, Ray Hefter Jr., Ray Yarnig and Ed Volm.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, May 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church with the Rev. Jerome Repenshek presiding. Visitation will be Friday at the church only from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Masses or memorials are appreciated.
