Jane Wittenberg Humphrey, 90

Jane Wittenberg Humphrey of Ojai, Calif., passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the age of 90.

Jane was born on Aug. 13, 1919, to James and Clara Wittenberg in Cedarburg. From Jane’s Midwestern roots to her California days, she always shared and spread her joyous spirit. Jane is loved, and her memory will remain within the hearts of her children,  James, Holly, and Jeffrey; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl; and grandchildren, Jessica and Taylor.

Jane shared her passion for life through her devotion to teaching.  As a special needs teacher in the San Francisco area, Jane is hailed as the best teacher Palos Verdes Developmental Center ever had. Upon her retirement, Jane relocated to Ojai to be with her family.

Jane was a dedicated docent volunteer of the Museum of Ventura County and an active member of the Woman’s Festival Committee. Her participation will be missed.

Jane had many friends in the Ojai Valley.  As many of her Hitching Post neighbors have said, “Jane’s warm smile and welcomed greeting was infections.”  We looked forward to taking our children and grand children over for a visit with Jane. Jane always made them feel so special.
Jane remained close with her relatives and many high school and college friends in her beloved Wisconsin. She always looked forward to visiting her hometown of Cedarburg and will be laid to rest with her mother, father, aunts and uncles in Zur Ruhe Cemetery.

Friends are welcome to join the family for a Memorial Service on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at  2 p.m. at Advent Lutheran Church.  A reception honoring Jane will follow the service.

Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg is serving the family.
