Clarence E. Garceau, 94

Clarence E. Garceau, 94, of Jackson died on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Ruth Hospice in West Allis.

He was born on April 14, 1916, in Negaunee, Mich., to the late Fred and Celina (nee Ayotte) Garceau.

After high school, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps for 18 months. He then worked in the iron mines in the Upper Peninsula on Michigan.

On Nov. 16, 1940, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Lautanen in Negaunee, Mich. After his marriage he worked in the Arctic Circle for about a year. Gertrude predeceased Dec. 18, 1994.

In 1943, the family moved to Milwaukee where he was employed as a machinist for Evinrude Motors. Clarence retired after 27 years of service. Since 1971, he has been a resident of Jackson.

He was a member of Scenic View Country Club and Local 1302 AFL-CIO.

Survivors include two children, Joseph (Debbie) of Henderson, Nev., and Renee of West Bend; a daughter-in-law, Pam Garceau (Bob Henschel) of West Bend; nine grandchildren Natalie (Patrick) Benoit, Susan Kridler, Kim (Michael) Schmidt, Amy (Gil) Mucke, Jill (John) Berghammer, Joseph (Heather) Garceau, Brian Garceau, Teri Garceau and Kira Dalton; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita (Michael) Kridler; a son Brian; a grandson, Jeffrey Kridler; brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. James Hill officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 until 6:45 p.m.
