Robert J. ‘Alec’ Janzer, 89

Robert J. "Alec" Janzer, 89, of Hartford passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford.

Robert was born July 10, 1921, in Hartford, to Alex and Anna (nee Hesprich) Janzer. He was united in marriage to Anita O’Connell on June 30, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church, Wolfe Island, Ontario, Canada.

Robert and his brother, Melvin "Buddy," were co-owners of Janzer’s Bakery in Hartford. The bakery had been in the family for 70 years. Robert was known as "Mity Nice" to customers and friends. After the sale of Janzer’s Bakery in 1984 until 2006, he baked for the Old Fashioned Bakery in West Bend. He continued his enjoyment of baking and sharing the baked goods with family and friends until the time of his death. Robert loved fishing and telling his stories about Wolfe Island. He enjoyed playing cards and volunteering his time at the Hartford Auto Museum. He was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church and Hartford Senior Friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Janzer of Hartford; his children, James (Elaine) Janzer of Sun Prairie, Dennis Janzer (John Vincent) of Memphis, Tenn., Donald (Mary) Janzer of Iron Ridge, Michael (Joan) of Hartford, Patrick (Mary) Janzer of Hartford, Eileen "Tudy" (Bob) Reis of Fond du Lac and Kathleen "Peach" (Barry Yott) Eves of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; his grandchildren, Melissa, Daniel (Kim Prill), Alec (Alexandria Baer) and Jacob Janzer, Dominick and Benjamin Janzer, Jason and Adam Janzer, Andrew Reis (Anna Chertos), and Sarah and Joseph Eves; his great-grandchildren, Hailey and Jackson; his sister, Cecelia Sawicki; his sisters-in-law, Audrey Swett, Marion Janzer and Mary Janzer Sampica. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley, Melvin and Joseph Janzer; his grandson, Brian Janzer; and his brothers-in-law, Stewart Swett and George Sawicki.

A Mass of Christian burial for Robert was held Wednesday, Nov. 10, at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford. Inurnment at St. Kilian Catholic Cemetery in Hartford.
