William Peter Werner, 87

William P. “Bill” Werner, 87, of Hartford, answered God’s call on Nov. 11, 2010, at the Hartford Care Center.

Bill was born March 30, 1923, in Slinger, to William and Aurelia (nee Mauch) Werner. He was united in marriage to Jean Woodward-Walters on June 26, 1965, in Menomonee Falls.

Bill was a dairy farmer much of his life and was a milk hauler for several years. After selling the herd in 1977, he worked at the West Bend Co. for 10 years. He was an avid sports fan and participated in several sports as a young man. He especially loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Bill read countless books over the years, favoring history and biographies, and was the family historian.

He was a wonderful husband, father, stepfather and uncle, and will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Werner; dear son, Bill (Shellie) Werner; dear sister, Carol (Jerome) Rolefson; loving stepchildren, Tom (Elaine) Walters, Terre Woodward, Anne Walters, Robin (Dan) Rateau and James (CeCe) Young. He is further survived by loving step-grandchildren, their children and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Robert Walters; infant grandson, Jason Walters; dear sister, Mary (Ebert); brothers, Herbert (Gertie) and Theodore (Marie); and nephew, Robert Werner.

Mass of Christian burial for Bill will be held on Monday, Nov. 15, at noon at St. Peter Catholic Church, 200 E. Washington St., Slinger, with the Rev. Richard Stoffel officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Monday at church from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Slinger.
