Janet M. Norton, 72, of Eagle River, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born on June 6, 1938, in West Bend, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (nee Hajny) Polenske. She was raised and attended schools in West Bend. On Dec. 14, 1957, Janet married John Norton in Waukegan, Ill. The couple moved to the Northwoods in 1977. They owned and operated the Forest Motel in Florence, then moved to Eagle River in 1989. Janet was employed as a housekeeper for the Northland Pines School System for 10 years. She was an avid hunter, especially for turkeys, and she enjoyed stamp collecting and feeding the birds.

Janet is survived by her husband, John of Eagle River; daughters, Barbara (Doug) Weber of Aurora and Janine (Ron) Orzak of Three Lakes; sons, John Paul Norron of Eagle River and Robert (Sandra) Norton of Iron Mountain, Mich.; sister, Ann Polenske of West Bend; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Polenske.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Three Lakes, with the Rev. William Horath presiding. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Three Lakes Cemetery.
