Howard L. Cralley, 87

A funeral service was held on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at 3 p.m. at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, for Howard L. Cralley, 87, of Cedarburg, who died on Nov. 24, 2010. Visitation was at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment followed the service at Zur Ruhe Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Howard was born in Coles Station, Ill., on Sept. 19, 1923, the son of the late George and Lellie (nee Calhoun) Cralley. He graduated from Mattoon High School in Mattoon, Ill.

Howard entered military service in March 1943, serving his country during World War II as a platoon sergeant in the Army. His tour of duty took him though North Africa and Italy. Howard received a Purple Heart after being wounded in Italy in June 1944.  He was honorably discharged in December 1945.

After the war, Howard was united in marriage on April 26, 1947, to Virginia Polenz at Bay View Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

Howard was a past American Legion commander for both Cedarburg and Ozaukee County. He also served as an Ozaukee County Board supervisor.  Howard worked at ACDelco Electronics in quality control and later at the Mee-Kwon Golf Course as a ranger. He was a very avid golfer.
Howard was also a good father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Virginia; children, Dennis (Jacqueline) Cralley, Cindy (Michael) Curley and Bill (Diane) Cralley; grandchildren, Sean (Patty) Cralley, Danielle Cralley and Alexis Cralley; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ryah and Trenan.

He is further survived by his godchildren, Melinda Winter and David Polzin; other relatives and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Erin Smith; his two brothers and his two sisters.
