Clyde H. Russell Jr., 82
H. Russell Jr., 82, of West Bend, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010,
at Cedar Bay West in West Bend.
He was born on March 13, 1928, in Marinette to the late Clyde and Edna
(nee White) Russell. Clyde grew up in Marinette, but his family later
moved to Milwaukee. After high school graduation he obtained a degree in
education from the Wisconsin State Teachers College in Milwaukee. Over the
years he also earned a master’s degree in music education from
Vandercook College in Chicago.
While attending college, he met his future bride, Shirley Allen, and they
were united in marriage in Wausau on Dec. 26, 1950. Clyde served his
country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. He went on to teach
music and mathematics primarily in Milwaukee at Wilber Wright Junior High
School and Vincent High School.
Clyde was a member of St. Jacobi Congregational Church in Richfield. He
was also a member of the American Legion Alonzo Cudworth Post in
Milwaukee. Clyde played in the Kettle Moraine Symphony, Mark Steger Band,
American Legion Band, Howard Schneider Band and various other venues. In
1996 Clyde and Shirley moved from Milwaukee to Cedar Community. While
living at Cedar Community he enjoyed directing the Cedar Village Choir.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of West Bend; his two sons, Jonathan
(Debbie Kotlarek) Russell of Brookfield and James (Kathleen) Russell of
Middleton; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Kyle) Swanson, Molly, Kelly and
Kerry Russell; and other relatives and many friends.
A private family service was held at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home.
Friends may greet the family during a memorial celebration of Clyde’s
life on Oct. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cedar Ridge, 113 Cedar Ridge Drive,
West Bend. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Choristers Fund
at Cedar Ridge, American Cancer Society, Saint Jacobi Congregational
Church or Milwaukee American Legion Band.
