Ruel ‘Duaine’ Newberry, 77

Ruel "Duaine" D. Newberry, 77, of Jackson passed away on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Virginia Highlands.

Duaine was born on June 27, 1933, to Ruel and Ellen (nee Moore) Newberry in Newberry, Mich. He served in the Navy during the Korean War on the battleship Missouri. Duaine married Carol (nee Oswald) on May 5, 1990, in Grafton. He worked at Orion and was very proud of the preciseness of his workmanship. After 40 years of being a dedicated employee, Duaine retired and enjoyed fishing, hunting, good trips to the casino, and loved to spend time and be involved with his grandchildren. He was also instrumental in helping his wife, Carol, with the success of their restaurant business in downtown West Bend.

Duaine is survived by his wife Carol, children Mark (Melinda) Newberry, Debra (William) Rettmann, Tammy (Emmett) Grissom, stepchildren Brenda Kirchner, Pamela Weisser, Harlan (Carrie) Weisser, Bruce Weisser, Lisa (Todd) Henke. He is further survived by his eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, special dog companions Reggie and Teddy, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Pastor David Schlieter presiding. Gathering will be at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 8, from 4 p.m. until time of service (6 p.m.).
