Charles ‘Chuck’ Spaeth
Charles J. "Chuck" Spaeth, 76, of West Bend, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 at his residence.
Chuck was born on Feb. 17, 1934 to Isadore and Lorraine (nee Hentz) Spaeth in the town of Polk. The farmstead on which he was born and raised is now the site of the Washington County Fairgrounds.
While attending West Bend High School, Chuck was co-captain of the football team his junior and senior years and class president his senior year. Chuck married his high school sweetheart Ruth (nee Weiss) on October 9, 1954 at Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was always a true gentleman, never forgetting to open a door for his wife. In 1954, he started working for the Gehl Co. until his retirement in 1992. Chuck enjoyed playing the saxophone, was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan, a consummate BBQ grill master, liked wood-working, bowling and golf, was an all-around handyman, always showed his sense of humor and loved a good Manhattan! Chuck was a member of the Gehl Company Hexelbank Club and Knights of Columbus, including past Grand Knight of the 3rd degree as well as a member of 4th degree Our Lady of Holy Hill Assembly #1677.
Chuck will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by his loving wife Ruth, children Liz (Tom) Spaeth-Werner, Mark (Tricia) Spaeth, Steve (Gretchen) Spaeth, Laura (Mike) Hoffman, Corinne (Keith) Sommer and Carla (John) Mueller. He is further survived by 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters Henry (LaVerne) Spaeth, Sister Ga-briel Mary Spaeth, Mary Ann (Lloyd) Verhaalen, Alice Ad-elmeyer, Jerome (Di-ane) Spaeth, Tony (Mary Jane) Spaeth, Bernie (Trish) Spaeth, Sister Laura Jean Spaeth, Ron (Helen) Spaeth, Rich (Judy) Spaeth, Lucy (Dave) Bingen, brother-in-law Jim Weiss, sister-in-law Jean (Jack) Rieke, nieces and nephews.
Preceded to heaven by his parents, in-laws Tony and Marge Weiss, infant son Charles and brother-in-law Merlin Adelmeyer.
Also missed but lovingly remembered by many other family members and a plethora of friends.
We are all better people because you were in our lives. Your many humble attributes will be forever remembered and may we all do as well as you did to pass on your skills, great attitude, and love and care for others from generation to generation.
A Mass of Christian burial for Chuck will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1025 S. 7th St., West Bend, with Fr. Jeffrey Haines presiding. Visitation will precede Mass at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel in West Bend on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus prayer service at 5 p.m. Private family interment services at Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Full Shelf Food Pantry, Inc., 231 Municipal Dr., West Bend, WI 53095, would be appreciated.
