Samuel A. ‘Sam’ Tilson Jr., 85

Samuel A. "Sam" Tilson Jr., of Slinger, 85, passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital.

Sam was born on April 11, 1925, in Maryville, Tenn., to Samuel A. and Irene M. (nee Martin) Tilson, Sr. He was in the 29th Infantry Division in World War II. He was also an avid golfer and loved singing and playing jazz music.

Sam is survived by his two daughters, Robin (Steven) Starnes and Dana Tilson, both of Atlanta, Ga. He is also survived by his extended family, Steve (Patti) Neibauer, Jeffrey (Susan) Wardon and Jennifer (Mike) Paulson. Also survived by his nine loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sam is preceded in death by his wife, Willene (nee Walker) Tilson, who passed away Nov. 10, 1980; and his companion, Joan "Joni" Johnson, who passed away in 2008; and two sisters, Eloise and Jerry; and one brother, Martin.

A memorial service for Sam will be at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the House of Prayer, 204 Kettle Moraine Dr., in Slinger with the Rev. Steven Beauprey presiding. Interment will take place in Arlington Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sandy Springs, Ga.
