Michael Gruetzmacher, 54


Michael Gruetzmacher passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010, at his home, at the age of 54.

Michael was born on Feb. 11, 1956, in Milwaukee, the son of William and Lois (Packard) Gruetzmacher. He grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Grafton High School in 1974. Michael then went on and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1981 with a degree in restaurant management. He worked at Ground Round in Milwaukee until transferring to the Waterloo, Iowa, location in 1985.

Michael owned and managed Mr. Movies in Waterloo from 1991 to 2003. He then worked for various restaurants and businesses in the Waterloo area. Michael married Linda Benson in 1988; they later divorced. He enjoyed riding bikes, golfing, watching the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers and coaching soccer. Most of all, Michael loved spending time with his family and he devoted his time and love to his children, Ryan and Rachel.

He is preceded in death by his father and a brother, Scott.

Michael is survived by his mother, Lois Panke of Theresa; a son, Ryan of Iowa City; a daughter, Rachel of Waterloo; three brothers, Jeff (Donna) of Grafton, Kim (Cindy) of Arden Hills, Minn., and Bill (Jill) of Grafton.

Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, Iowa.
