Doris Mae Rosenheimer Blake


Doris Mae Rosenheimer Blake, 89, died on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Elmhurst, Ill., at home and at peace.

Doris was born in Kewaskum on Feb. 22, 1920, to David Max and Lena M. Rosenheimer. She attended school in Kewaskum, graduating from Kewaskum High School in 1936 and Beloit College in 1940. At Beloit College Doris met her future husband, Harold Wallace Blake. They were married shortly after graduation.

Doris’ life was filled with community volunteer work for the Methodist Church and the Kirkland schools. Doris was an avid bridge player and golfer and excelled at both. She never regretted trading a professional career for raising her four children, Sandy, Barb, Mary and John. Doris spent many summers at Big Cedar Lake in the family cottage. And the winters in Tucson, Ariz., where she was able to pursue her passions of both bridge and golf.

Doris moved to Lexington Square Elmhurst, Ill., in 1999. There she continued to enjoy her passions and had the luxury of being close to several of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Barb (Richard) Rosenberg of Elmhurst, Ill., and Mary Shields of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her son, John (Kay) Blake of Stillman Valley, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Her daughter, Sandy Holland, of Chapel Hill, N.C., passed away on July 28, 2010. She was also predeceased in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her brothers, Elmo, Ralph, Mark and Henry; and her sister, Retha Mason.

A memorial service will be held at the Rosenheimer Cemetery, Slinger, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010.
