Fr. Matthias Montgomery
Fr.
Matthias Montgomery, O.C.D., was born to Eternal Life on Sept. 21, 2010,
at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, at the age of 75.
He was born in New Britain, Conn., on Feb. 4, 1935, the son of Patrick and
Mary (nee Fagan) Montgomery.
He entered the Discalced Carmelite Order in Brookline, Mass., on Aug. 2,
1954. Fr. Matthias Montgomery of the Cross, O.C.D., made his first
profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1955, and was ordained to the priesthood on
June 9, 1962. He served the Discalced Carmelites in a variety of
ministries including vocation director, provincial counselor, prior,
retreat director, confessor to our Carmelite Nuns, postulant and novice
director and assistant to the Secular Carmelites.
He is survived by his brothers, John (Margaret) Montgomery and Father
Joseph Montgomery; and his sister-in-law, Rosiland Montgomery; nieces;
nephews; other relatives; and the Discalced Carmelite Friars with whom he
lived for 56 years; and with many friends.
Fr. Matthias is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lawrence
Montgomery.
Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with evening
prayer at 5 p.m., in the Shrine Chapel, Basilica of Holy Hill, Hubertus.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m.
in the Main Church at Holy Hill, with burial following in the Carmelite
Cemetery on the grounds of Holy Hill.
