Vernette Hartmann Sunderlage
Vernette Hartmann Sunderlage, 90, of West
Bend, formerly of Elgin, Ill., passed away on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1920, in Bartlett, Ill., the daughter of Fred and
Mathilda (nee Jahn) Arens. Vernette lived at the Hartmann family farm near
Roselle, Ill./Rodenberg, Ill., from 1937 to 1945, moving to Plato Center
Township, west of Elgin, to a dairy farm from 1945 to 1962. She moved to
Elgin in 1962 until moving to Barrington, Ill., in 1999. In 2001, Vernette
relocated to West Bend until 2007, moving to Kettle Moraine Gardens, in
Kewaskum.
She enjoyed family gatherings for holidays, German music, crocheting
afghans and giving them away to others, playing cards and games, bowling
and golfing, and sharing farm memories with her assisted living family.
She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her two sons, Ronald (Patricia) Hartmann of Plato
Center, Ill., and Dale (Carolyn) Hartmann of West Bend; five
grandchildren, Kim (Keith Krystek) Hartmann, Stephanie (Mathew) Tresemer,
Lance (Tabatha) Hartmann, Josh (Cat) Hartmann and Mark (Carol) Hartmann;
10 great-grandchildren, Zak, Aly and Teddy Lowe, Lukas, Morgan, and Zoe
Tresemer, Monte and Sabrina Hartmann, and Corinne and Adam Springer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Emil Hartmann,
whom she married on Oct. 24, 1937, and who passed on Jan. 19, 1997; and
her second husband, Marvin Sunderlage, on Dec. 4, 2000.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. in the
Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with the Rev. Thomas Niermann officiating.
Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be on
Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time
of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial flagpole at her
assisted living home in Wisconsin.
