Walter A. Kraft, 77

Walter A. Kraft, of Cedarburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sept. 26, 2010, at his home at the age of 77 after a very courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, Cedarburg.  A Masonic service and American Legion walkthrough will take place at church at 5 p.m., with a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. Interment will be on Friday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Cemetery.

Walter was born in Milwaukee on July 16, 1933, to Elmer and Elfrieda (nee Stoeckmann) Kraft. He went to Wisconsin State College to become a teacher, graduating in 1956. Walter then joined the Army and was discharged honorably on July 18, 1958.  He married Gloria Hansen on Aug. 16, 1958, at Incarnation Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.  He and Gloria lived in Milwaukee and Glendale, later moving to Cedarburg in 1974.

Walter taught all levels of school in one fashion or another for Milwaukee Public Schools at Hampton School and Burroughs Middle School until his retirement.

Walter was a woodworker.  He made knickknacks, did cabinetry and built all but the shell of his Northwoods retreat in Minocqua. Walter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Walter was a member of Victory Lodge No. 0320, Tripoli Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jesters Court 101 and Peter Wollner American Legion Post 255.  He also was a very faithful and active member of Advent Lutheran Church.

Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria J. Kraft; sons, Gregory A. Kraft and Daniel M. (Kim) Kraft; grandchildren, Paul (Monique), Stephanie, Allen, Nathan, Haley and Joshua; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beverly Stokes.
