Ralph L. Zaun, 89

Ralph L. Zaun of Grafton passed away peacefully on Thursday June 3, 2010, at Columbia St. Maryís Ozaukee Hospital at the age of 89.

Ralph was born in Grafton on Dec. 9, 1920, to Robert P. and Alma (nee Mintzlaff) Zaun and married Edith (nee Wilterdink) on Feb. 14, 1986, at the Concordia University Chapel in Mequon.

A lifelong village resident, Ralph followed his fatherís footsteps by serving decades as president of Grafton State Bank, which was founded by a group of investors led by his grandfather, Louis Zaun, in 1906.  Ralph also served in the State Assembly from 1947 to 1951, was a past president of the Independent Community Bankers of America, and also served with the Ozaukee Co. Economic Development Corporation.  He currently was the chairman of the Village Historic Preservation Committee.

In addition to being involved in many civic organizations, Ralph also gained a reputation as a philanthropist. Ralph has financially contributed to numerous community projects over the years, including providing the bulk of the funding for the Robert P. Zaun Pavilion and most recently purchasing a grand concert piano for the Grafton High School Auditorium.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Edith of Grafton; step-children, Steven (Frances) Lindstedt of Cudahy, Karen Bach of Cedarburg and Lori (Pat) Kessenich of Manitowish Waters.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fredric.  He is further survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held today, June 8, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington Ave., Grafton. Visitation will be at the church today from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held at the church cemetery.
