Roy Merlin Crass

Roy Merlin Crass, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Mayville Nursing and Rehab. He was born on May 24, 1927 to Joseph and Edna (nee Gerner) Crass in Phelps, Wis. Roy married Frances (nee Mergenthaler) on Sept. 11, 1947 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Slinger. He enlisted in the Navy at age 15 with his twin brother, Ray. He was a Machinist's Mate 3rd Class (CB) USNR and served during WWII. He enjoyed educating children about WWII. He also enjoyed remodeling with his daughter and was an avid hunter and gardener. Roy was a member of Underage Veterans, Laborers Union Local 113, and past-president of Washington County Snowmobile Association.

Roy is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Royce and Joyce ("John Witczak") Witczak; grandchildren, John (Wendy), Troy (Pam), Andrew, Ryan (Stephanie), Melanie Crass, Kelly Koenig, Angela (Lee) Wenninger, Gregory (Michelle) Schlink, Frances (Kyle) Ellenberger, and John ("Kaylee Alexander") Wit-czak; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald and Bruce of Phelps, Everett of Land O' Lakes, and Phillip of West Bend. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.

Private services were held.
