Harry L. Sonneborn, 91


Harry L. Sonneborn died March 31, 2011, at his home in Port Washington. He was 91 years old.

Harry was born in Detroit in 1919. He graduated from the University of
Michigan, served in the United States Navy during World War II, and then
settled in Milwaukee, where he took a job as a copy editor at the Milwaukee
Journal Co. In 1962, when the Journal bought the Milwaukee Sentinel, Harry
became managing editor of the newly reconstituted Sentinel. He retired in
1982 as Milwaukee Sentinel executive editor.

Harry is preceded in death by two wives, Jacquelyn Panetti and Beth
Henderson. He is survived by one brother, Arthur B. Sonneborn (Janet), also
a newspaper man, South Bend, Ind.; three daughters, Carolyn Mayr (Wilhelm), Wels, Austria; Susan Sonneborn, Thiensville; and Pru Palecek (Dale), Port Washington. Also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four stepchildren. The family thanks his caregiver, Angelie Battagler.

A memorial gathering will take place in summer. The body was donated to the University of Wisconsin Medical School.
