Hazel M. Weinand, 89


Hazel M. Weinand (nee Darmody), 89, of Jackson, passed away Friday, April, 8, 2011, at her home.

She was born Oct. 31, 1921, to Michael and Violenta (nee Zimmel) Darmody, in the town of Wayne.

On April 19, 1947, Hazel married Eugene C. Weinand at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in West Bend. Hazel worked for the Register of Deeds Washington County after graduating from Kewaskum High School. During World War II, she worked for the federal government in Stockton, Calif., dispatching supplies until the warís end. In 1963, Hazel became the first secretary at Jackson School and later became a teacherís aide. After she retired from the school, she was asked to work in the Probate Court of Washington County until their backlog of cases were finished. Hazel also had a Real Estate license since 1974. The family firm, Weinand Realty, developed residential lots in the Jackson area. Hazel lived on Hazelwood Lane in Jackson, which was named after her.

Hazel also enjoyed her home on Big Sand Lake in Phelps. Many enjoyable hours were spent playing Sheepshead with family and friends. She enjoyed the company of many friends at the Jackson Senior Center.

Hazel is survived by her sons, Mark (Sharron) of Eagle River, Steven of Jackson and Craig (Kathie) of West Bend; and daughter, Wendy (Jeff) of Littleton, Colo. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Nicole (Robert), Joslyn, Leah, Jacob (Laura), Katelyn, Bridgette and Matthew; and greatgrandchildren, Olin and Ella. She is the sister of Wesley (Pearl) Darmody, Jerry (Marian) Darmody and Vivian (Walter) Bartelt.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Clyde (Mildred) Darmody; her sister, Blanche (Wilmer) Hawig; and her sister-in-law, Mildred (Alfred Rheingans and George Moersfelder).

A funeral service for Hazel will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at St. Peterís UCC, 2800 Pioneer Road, the town of Jackson, Richfield, with Dale Zarling officiating. Visitation will be at the church only on Saturday, April 16, from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
