Frieda
Anna Filter (nee Weckwerth), 93, of Cedarburg, died April 26, 2011.
She was born on April 20, 1918, in Milwaukee to Otto and Theresa (nee
Skibbe) Weckwerth and in her early years grew up on a fruit farm in
Michigan. She was baptized on June 21, 1918, and confirmed on March 29,
1931, at St. Paul’s United Lutheran Church, Bainbridge, Mich.
Frieda was the beloved wife of Arthur A. Filter. They were married on June
22, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg. In June 2010 they
celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Their marriage was blessed with two children, daughter Celia (Ron) Lechnyr
of Eugene, Ore.; and son, Arthur E. (Marlene) Filter of Cedarburg. Frieda
was the beloved grandmother of Todd (Toni) Filter of Germantown, Kristin
Filter of West Bend, David (Belin) Lechnyr of Eugene, Ore., Michelle (Oyvind)
Henningsen of Bothell, Wash., Sandra (Geoff) Arsenault of Eugene Ore., and
Terri Lechnyr of Eugene, Ore. Frieda was blessed to have five
great-grandchildren, Preston Filter of Germantown, Tristan Arsenault of
Eugene, Ore., Kristoffer, Emilie and Madeleine Henningsen of Bothell,
Wash. Frieda is further survived by sisters, Cecile (David) Paul of
Palatine, Ill., and Elsie Rantz of Watervliet, Mich.; and sister-in-law,
Elda Filter Menomonee Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Carl Weckwerth and
Albert Weckwerth. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and dear
friends.
Frieda was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedar-burg and
spent many hours volunteering with the Quilting Group and Ladies Aid. She
was also active in her Homemakers Group. For many years she worked in the
family business, Filter Oil.
Frieda loved to bake and cook. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and
playing cards. The past 13 winters were spent at their winter home in
Mesa, Ariz., where she and Art enjoyed the company of many friends and the
warm climate.
Frieda’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 1 p.m.
at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg. Family will receive friends at the
church Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be
at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Cedarburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church,
Cedarburg.
Frieda will be missed greatly. May she rest in peace and be blessed with
being in the presence of her God.
