McKay Schwalbach, 62
McKay Schwalbach (nee Gilchrist), 62,
passed away unexpectedly July 1st, 2011, at her residence in Savannah, Ga.
Born in 1948 in Culver City, Calif. to Jack and Breta Gilchrist, McKay
spent much of her young life in Madison. She graduated from Madison West
High School in 1966 and then from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with
a bachelor of arts in political science in 1970.
She married the late James B. Schwalbach in 1973 and moved to West Bend
shortly thereafter. In West Bend, she was active in many civic causes and
was heavily involved in Rotary.
In 1978, McKay received her master of science in accounting at the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
McKay worked for Enger Kress and Maysteel in purchasing faculties and, for
the past 11 years, she worked at CTS Industries in Savannah, Ga., as a
senior buyer. She was a charter member of the Savannah chapter of Drinking
Liberally, continuing her love of political conversation and debate.
She is survived in death by two sons, Matthew (Megan) Schwalbach of
Minneapolis and David (Betsy) Schwalbach of Atlanta; two brothers, James
and John Gilchrist; two grandsons, Jack and Max Schwalbach.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. at the First Unitarian
Society of Madison, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison. In lieu of flowers,
please make a donation to Habitat for Humanity.
