Betsy Jeanne Rix, 53, of Marietta, Ga. passed away June 12, 2011.

She was born Jan. 31, 1958, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Elgardt and Georgianne Maahs of Hartford.

Betsy graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1976, and was an accomplished swimmer who qualified for the state championship all four years. Betsy went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned her bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. During her professional career she worked for Emerson Electric, Lockheed Missiles and Space, and the Kenan Re-search Center at the Atlanta History Center.

She also loved cooking, quilting, golf and tennis.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 29 years Glenn Rix, son Jonathan Rix, 2nd Lt. USMC, parents Elgardt (Bud) and Georgianne, sisters Sally Maahs and Susan (Michael) Allen, nephews Scott (Danielle) Kwaterski and Stephen (Laura) Kwaterski and niece Kathryn Allen.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 26, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church in Hartford.

A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at church. The Rev. Michael Tess will officiate.

Private interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
