Arline G. Lubner, 86
Arline G. Lubner of Cedarburg went to her heavenly home on Friday,
Nov. 25, 2011. She passed away surrounded by her loving family at
Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee in Mequon at the age of 86.
Arline was born in Mequon on Feb. 28, 1925, the daughter of William
Koehler and Florence Gruenewald Koehler. Arline was an avid baseball
player, and played baseball after high school for the Coffee Pot
Kids. She was later inducted into the Women’s American Baseball
League. Arline and her first husband, Fritz Scherf, owned and
operated a pet store in downtown Cedarburg. The shop held many
interesting animals, including a monkey named Clarabelle. The shop
drew many children who came mostly to visit the animals and Arline.
She loved the children!
Starting in 1963, Arline enjoyed breeding dogs, mostly schnauzers and
poodles. After closing the pet store, she opened a dog grooming
business in Cedarburg called Styling By Arline, which she ran for
over 30 years. On Nov. 6, 1981, she married Alfred "Buddy" Lubner.
After she retired, she and Buddy enjoyed dancing and going on camping
excursions in their Hi-Lo camper. They traveled throughout the
Midwest with their dog, "Tiki," meeting their friends from the "Hi-
Way Loafers" and the "Hi-Lo Friends."
Arline was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, the
Cedarburg American Legion Auxiliary Post 288 and the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred of Cedarburg; son, James (Pat
Buhrow) of Cedarburg; her daughter, Donna Hertzburg of Hawaii; and
step-children, Thomas (Kathy) Lubner of Grafton and Kathy (Troy
Stuart) Lubner of Waubeka. She is further survived by eight
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Koehler, Mike (the
late Adeline) Koehler, Al Koehler and Fritz (the late Ruthie)
Koehler; and her sister, Ruby (the late Carl) Wilhelme.
