Charles Schroeder, 70


Charles “Chuck” Schroeder, 70, of Verona, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, after a long, valiant battle with brain cancer.

Chuck Schroeder was born in Chicago, Ill. on Nov. 24, 1941, to William and Julia (nee Polyak), and was the oldest of two children. Chuck graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1965; he played baseball at UW-Madison where he was a catcher. Chuck Schroeder served as a physical education teacher in the West Bend School District for 30 years. Throughout his career, he coached track, football, wrestling and baseball. Chuck touched many lives as the head baseball coach at West Bend West High School (1977-2000). His 1981 team finished as a state runner-up and his 1984 team earned the WIAA State Championship. Chuck was honored to be inducted into the West Bend Athletic Hall of Fame and be an inaugural inductee at the Carl Kuss Field at Regner Park Ring of Champions (2011). Coach Schroeder retired with an overall baseball record of 379-266.

Above all, Chuck will be remembered for being genuine and possessing great character and integrity. One of his former ball players noted, “He was a tremendous person, friend, husband, father and was a very hard-working man with a kind, gentle, thoughtful heart who made many excellent choices in life.” Simply put, Chuck enjoyed life.

He is survived by his mother Julia; brother Dale; son William; and daughter Sara and her husband Brent Kimbel, and their two children, David and Alex.

He was preceded in death by his father William, and his loving wife of over 40 years, Carol (nee Siebers).

A celebration of life function held from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at the Zor Shrine Center, 575 Zor Shrine Place, Madison, WI, 53719. We welcome friends to come and celebrate his life.
