Bernice D. Scherger, (nee Yaeger) age 98, of Hartford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at Deerview Meadows in Hartford.

Bernice was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Hartford, to John and Emma (nee Zuest) Yaeger . She was united in marriage to Herman Scherger on Aug. 4, 1932 in Waukegan, Illinois.

Bernice enjoyed bowling, gardening, needlecraft, traveling, and golfing. She was a volunteer for 22 years for Meals on Wheels. Bernice was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Hartford.

She is survived by her children Donna (Glenn) Qualmann of Beaver Dam, Shirley (Willard) Haslow of Mayville and Barbara Dudec (George Meyer) of Hartford; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman, daughter Sandra Lee, siblings Myrtle (Pete) Schaefer and Jack Yaeger, great grandson Jeremy, and an infant great-great grandson.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union Street, Hartford with the Rev. Jack Freiheit officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment following the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
