Gerald W. ‘Jerry’ Kocher, 77

Gerald W. “Jerry” Kocher, 77, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011.
Jerry was born on Sept. 20, 1933, in West Bend, to Harold and Julia (nee Weston) Kocher. He was born and raised in the West Bend area and was a graduate of West Bend High School. During high school, Jerry worked on the Schneiss and the Ziegler family farms. After high school, Jerry enlisted as a proud member of the U.S. Army. He married Irene C. Boden on May 5, 1956, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. Jerry worked at Graff Masonry, owned an excavating company, worked for the City of West Bend and Fuge Plumbing & Heating. For many years, he owned and operated Kocher Heating & Sheet Metal. Later, he worked at Tennies Hardware, and for many years he installed fences. Jerry was a member of the West Bend Fire Department for 35 years and was the Scoutmaster for the Boys Scouts and Cub Scouts for the troops at both St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Fred A. Schaefer VFW Post No. 1393 and a Life Member of the American Legion Post No. 36.

Jerry is survived by his children, Douglas (Lou Ann) of West Bend, Patrick (Danielle) of Oak Creek and Susan Kocher of Jackson; grandchildren, Trischa (Randy) Richmond of West Bend, Michael Kocher of West Bend, Taylor Kohls of West Bend, Zachary Kocher of Oak Creek and Cameron Kocher of Oak Creek; and great-granddaughter Addysen Richmond. He is further survived by his brothers, Ray (Carol) Kocher of Indiana and Dennis (Patricia) Kocher of West Bend; brother-in-law, Tom (Gladys) Thelen of West Bend; sister in-law, Agnes Vorpahl of West Bend; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Irene; parents; brother, Ron Kocher; sisters, June Fields and Dawn Dust; and brothers-and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian burial for Jerry will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, 1025 S. 7th Ave., West Bend, with the Rev. Jeffrey Haines presiding. Visitation will be at the church only on Friday, Feb. 4, from 4 p.m. until time of Mass. Interment will take place at Washington County Memorial Park.

The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.
