Betty Lea Ponath, 79

Betty Lea Ponath, 79, formerly of Jackson and of Fond du Lac, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011.

Betty was born in Dafter, Mich., a daughter of William and Catherine (nee Spencer) Haynes.

On Nov. 5, 1949, she married Elmer Ponath in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Betty was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jackson. She was mostly a homemaker, taking care of her family. Betty enjoyed embroidery, reading and country music.

Betty is survived by eight children, Linda (Roger) Pratt of North Fond du Lac, Lavern (Deborah) Ponath of West Bend, Twyla Jaekel of Kewaskum, Janice (Donald) Bergin of Suring, Karen (James) Edwards of West Bend, Dayle (Donna) Ponath of Newburg, Faith (Michael) Bednaczyk of Fond du Lac and Terri (Rick) Parchim of Fredonia; 18 grandchildren, Ann, Alethea, David, Tessa, CJ, Jon, Chad, Michael, Ashley, Jeffrey, Cassandra, Jennifer, Timothy, Jamison, Shannon, Amber, Jeremy and Ben; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leola Eastman, Violet Greathouse and Jean Captain; two brothers, Earl and Clyde Haynes; a sister-in-law, Elaine (Jerome) Dietrich; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Betty in death are her husband, Elmer; daughter, Gloria Fry; sisters, Gertrude Mathreau, Wilda Haynes and Marie Neubecker; brothers, Guy, Ross, Clayton and Myles Haynes; abd special friend, Carl Kaiser.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Christ Lutheran Church, N168 W20152 Main St., Jackson, on Sunday, Feb. 13, from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Chuck Turbin will officiate.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church, Jackson.
