James
W. "Jim" Mohr, 89, passed away on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011.
Jim was born on July 5, 1921 to August and Elsie (nee Erdmann) Mohr in
Milwaukee and graduated from Rufus King High School, class of 1939. He
began studies in engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but
interrupted them to join the Army in 1942. He married Doris (nee Tetzlaff)
on July 25, 1944, in Milwaukee. Following the wedding, he served in the
Philippines and Japan as a 1st Lieutenant. After returning home, he
completed bachelor and master degrees in mechanical engineering and was
certified as a professional engineer. He spent 36 years in the research
department of Outboard Marine Corp., ultimately becoming director. He was
an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and was elected as
a director and fellow. Jim loved horseback riding, Dixieland music,
fishing and gardening. He was very active in scouting and in the church
where he sang in the choir. Jim was a member of Fifth Avenue United
Methodist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Doris; children, James (Doreen) Mohr Jr. of
Hartford, Jeffrey (Kathy) Mohr of Sheboygan and Susan (Bennette) Harris of
Whitewater; grandchildren, Alex, Elizabeth (Matthew) Neighbors, James III,
Michael, Matthew (Anne) Harris and Emily Harris. Jim is further survived
by his brother, Thomas Mohr; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives
and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald; and other
brothers in-law and sisters-in-law.
A funeral service for Jim will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, at
Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, 323 S. Fifth Ave., West Bend, with
the Rev. Wes Falk presiding. Visitation will be at the church only on
Friday, Jan. 7, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment will take
place at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.
Memorials are appreciated to Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church or Cedar
Campus Foundation.
