Gerald Leroy Kempfer, 84

Gerald Leroy Kempfer, 84, of Hartford, was born to Eternal Life on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Horizon Hospice, Columbia St. Maryís Ozaukee, after a long battle with cancer.

Gerald was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Randolph, the son of the late William and Harriet (nee Gerritsen) Kempfer.

He served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II as a Staff Sergeant, Company A, 78th Infantry Lightning Division, for 16 months, serving as Sergeant at Arms at the Nuremberg Trials. After the war, Gerald worked for Kraft Foods, Slinger Creamery and Chrysler Outboard.

Gerald married Dolores (nee Stockfisch) in St. Lawrence on Aug. 21, 1948.

He is survived by Dolores, his loving wife of 62 years; his seven children, Elizabeth (Jim) Powell of Watertown, Jennifer (Dan) Wells of North St. Paul, Minn., Jon of Stafford, Va., Joel (Linda) of Wauwatosa, Andy (Renee) of Barton, Mary (Kenneth) Mitchell of Jackson and Amy (Terri) Bugos of River Falls; nine grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel Powell, Christopher (Jackie) Kempfer, Amanda (Greg) Keating, Krista (Brian) Prodoehl, Brad, Patrick and Erin Kempfer and Adam (April) Mitchell. Godfather of Sue, Connie, Donald and Donna. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Pat Stockfisch and Delores Hauman; brothers and sisters, Joan, Fran, Beverly, John, Harriet, Emil, David, Bill, Dick, Ardell, Kathy, Joseph, Ardell, Tom, Chris and Julie; special niece, Pattie (Bruce) Peters; and nephews, Greg Kempfer and Bobby (Carol) Stockfisch; unofficially adopted children, Jeff, Shelinor, Missy, Stephan and Cybele; and special neighbors, Gary and Donna, Scott and Kathy; along with many other nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his loving daughter-in-law, Lynn; his brothers, Carl and Bob; sisters, Rosalie and Donna Mae; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Marie, Catherine, Freddie, Dorothy, Ethel, Jimmy, Shirley, Helen, Carl, Clarence, Roman, Bernice, Mickey and Gloria, Harold, Kathleen, Teddy, Charlie, Otto and Florence.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home, 226 S. Main St., Hartford, and Saturday, Jan. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Parish, 4886 Highway 175, St. Lawrence. Mass of Resurrection will follow at St. Lawrence Parish at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Joseph Dominic will officiate. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

Memorials to the St. Kilianís Building Fund would be appreciated.
