Robert John Michael Schmitt

Robert "Bob" John Michael Schmitt, 86, of Park Place, West Bend, died on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at The Kathy Hospice.

Bob was born to John Paul Schmitt and Magdelena Diederich in Madison on May 28, 1924. After graduating from Central High School in Madison, Bob served in World War II in France with the Army Air Corps and was extremely proud to be a veteran. He was a member of VFW Post 36, the Knights of Columbus and St. Frances Cabrini Parish. For many years, Bob worked with Nagle-Hart, Cummins Diesel and Brake and Equipment out of Milwaukee, where he and Helen raised their family from about 1951 until 1990 when they retired to West Bend.

Bob is survived by his loving children and grandchildren, Ronald J. Schmitt, son Anthony, of Madison; Donna M. Buswell and her husband Terry Buswell, son Sean of Longmont, Colo.; and Dennis G. Schmitt and wife Carole Scheibel - Schmitt , daughters Carly and Natalie of Newnan, Ga. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Elliott of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, Neville Ward of Stoughton; and sister-in-law, Mary Evans of Randolph; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeanette Ward; and beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Helen (nee Hillebrandt).

A Mass of Christian burial for Bob will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend with the Rev. Jeffrey Haines presiding. Visitation will be at the church only from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Entombment will take place at Ledgeview Memorial Park in Fond du Lac.
