Joan McIntyre, 81
Joan McIntyre (nee Couture) died peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2011, at the age of 81.
Mrs. McIntyre spent most of her happy childhood in Eau Claire. After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School in 1947, Joan attended St. Benedict’s College in St. Cloud, Minn, then went on to be the valedictorian of the class of 1951 at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing (now Marshfield Clinic) in Marshfield.
She worked at University Hospital in Madison for several years. The majority of her career was devoted to caring for patients at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, where she specialized in psychiatric, coronary, critical care and rehabilitative geriatric nursing.
Joan is remembered by her friends for her active participation in marching band, orchestra, choir, debate and theater. Her family recalls her work in multiple Catholic charities and professional organizations, but primarily wishes to honor her memory as a loving mother and grandmother whose strength was second only to her gentleness.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Patricia J. McIntyre, West Bend, and Mary McIntyre-Haig, Milwaukee; and her beloved grandsons, Ahmir Yasrebdoust, Milwaukee, and John W. McIntyre, West Bend.
Memorials in Joan’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
Funeral services will he held on Wednesday, July 6, at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a memorial service and walking procession to the gravesite immediately thereafter.
