August was born on Feb. 21, 1918, in Saukville, to August L. Hoffmann and Freida (nee Schellenberg) Hoffmann. He later married Alice Berger on Dec. 13, 1958, at the Church of St. Jude in Wauwatosa.

August was a lifelong resident in the town of Saukville, living on the family farm for all of his life. He farmed various crops throughout his years on the farm and also raised some steer and chickens. August enjoyed working on the farm, but he also enjoyed tinkering with old cars and various types of machinery. He worked as a carpenter on the Fromm Fox Farms, building coops, and later worked as a mechanic for the Marquardt Bus Co., where he retired at the age of 68.

August is survived by his sisters-in-law, Estelle Oldenberg and Mary Ann Fillipiak; and brother-in-law, Jim Berger. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

August was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Alice M.
Hoffmann, who passed in February of 2010.
