Charles Kenneth ‘Chuck’ Blank, 79
Charles Kenneth “Chuck” Blank, born July 13, 1931, passed away peacefully in his home on July 2, 2011, at the age of 79 in Fountain Hills, Ariz., where he had moved to in 1999.
A longtime resident of Cedarburg, Chuck is survived by his wife, Betty (nee Guerin); son, David (Donna) Blank of West Des Moines, Iowa, and their children, Tommy and Alex. He is further survived by his stepchildren, Sherry (Mark) Denton of Ft. Worth and their children Sarah and Jay; Jim (Lynne) O’Reilly of Minneapolis and their children, Elizabeth, Ali and Teddy; and Tom O’Reilly of Mequon.
Chuck was a graduate of Cedarburg High School and received an accounting degree from the University of Wisconsin. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he returned to Cedarburg to begin his career at Cedarburg Mutual Insurance. Chuck retired from CMI in 1998 as chief operating officer.
Chuck was an active supporter of the Cedarburg community. He was charter secretary of the Cedarburg/Grafton Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the board of the Cedarburg State Bank, and was also an active supporter of the Cultural Center and Cedarburg Landmark Preservation Society.
Chuck was an avid Lake Michigan sailor. He began racing boats in the Lightning Class at the Milwaukee Yacht Club and was one of the founding members of the Soling Fleet. He was past commodore of the MYC (1975-1976) and was named the Merritt Hayes Yachtsman of the Year in 1990 that honors the “true Corinthian who exemplifies dignity, humility, integrity and sportsmanship.” Chuck also enjoyed skiing and was a member of Heiliger Huegel Ski Club, and a director in 1975. He was one of the first to have “buckle boots” and Head metal skis.
Chuck found great peace in the Lord in his battle with cancer, and entered into His arms with the knowledge that he will be with all of us again in paradise.
A service was held, July 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fountain Hills, Ariz.
A gathering to remember and celebrate Chuck’s life will be held in Cedarburg later this fall.
