William "Bill" L. Scherer passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the age of 51 years.

Bill was born on Jan, 22, 1960, in Waukesha to Leroy and Juliette (nee Driscoll) Scherer. He graduated from Port Washington High School, Class of 1979 and went on to earn a twoyear degree in ornamental horticulture from MATC in 1984. Bill lived in West Bend and was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In West Bend, Bill was a client of the Threshold and worked in their adult workshop program for many years.

Bill’s passion in life was his involvement with the Special Olympics. He played on many sports teams including volleyball, basketball, and softball. He passed away participating in a sport he loved with people he cared so much about.

Bill is survived by his mother Juliette; sisters Mary Jane (James) Meeuwsen, Nola (Calvin) Scherer-Luft, Rosemary (Gerald) Steffen; and brother Robert (Donna) Scherer. He is further survived by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his father Leroy.

A funeral service for Bill will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 140 N. 7th Ave. in West Bend with the Rev. David Schoob presiding. Visitation will be at the church only on Friday, July 22, 2011, from 3:30 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. Private interment of cremains will be at St. Finbar Cemetery in the town of Saukville at a later time.
