Clarence B. ‘Shorty’ Grasse, 81

Clarence B. "Shorty" Grasse peacefully entered into eternal life on Monday, May 23, 2011, in Mesa, Ariz., at the age of 81 years. "Shorty" was born on Nov. 18, 1929, in Mequon to Clarence E. Grasse and Loretta (nee Esselmann) Grasse. He later married Margaret Schwartz on Feb. 17, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Their marriage was blessed with three children.

"Shorty" served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and he was also a member of the Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288 in Cedarburg. He worked for the Ozaukee County Highway Department for more than 40 years. "Shorty" also served as a 4-H leader in gardening and older youth for more than 25 years. He loved his vegetable garden and planting numerous types of flowers, and also loved auto racing and football. Although he and Marge became full-time residents of Mesa, Ariz., for the past nine years, he never lost his love for the Green Bay Packers.

A funeral service will be held today, June 7, 2011, at noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church, W61 N498 Washington Ave., in Cedarburg. Interment will take place at Immanuel Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, June 7, 2011, at the church, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Rev. Kristine Ertl will officiate the funeral service.

"Shorty" is survived by his beloved wife, Marge Grasse; sons, Ken (Rachel) Grasse and Kurt (Linda) Grasse; granddaughters, Katherine Grasse and Abby Gibowski; and sister, Evelyn (Arlin) Walsh. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Arthur and Viola Schwartz; daughter, Kaye Gibowski; and son-in-law, Thomas Gibowski.
