Sherry
L. Flunker, 59, of Plymouth passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning,
June 12, 2011, as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1951, in Plymouth, a daughter of Lucile Kleinhans
Matzdorf and the late Norman Matzdorf.
She attended Acorn Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School in
1969. She graduated from Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland with an
associate degree as a registered nurse.
On Oct. 31, 1970, she married John Flunker at Salem Plankroad Church. The
couple has resided in the town of Mitchell since their marriage.
She was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend. She also worked
at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice and worked 15 years at Valley View Medical
Center in Plymouth.
Sherry was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth and was
the parish nurse in the church. She served as the treasurer for the town
of Mitchell for many years.
She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening,
walking in the kettles, collecting antiques, traveling (especially to the
ocean), attending musicals and plays, working in her flower gardens and
reading.
Survivors include her husband, John of the town of Mitchell; her children,
Jackie (Tom) Veldman, Casey Flunker and Brett Flunker, all of the town of
Mitchell; her grandchildren, Joshua and Sam Veldman, Seth Flunker, Cody
Behnke, Caroline and Rachel Flunker; her mother, Lucile (Al) Nysse of
Sheboygan Falls; her mother-in-law, Lucille Mueller of Plymouth; sisters,
Ginny Horneck of Plymouth, Karen Schinabeck of Sheboygan, Bev (Jim) Weigel
of Cascade and
Charlene (David) Buckman of Plymouth; brother-in-law, Charles (Jean)
Flunker of Waldo; sisters-inlaw, Judy Shovan of Cascade, Sallie Jensen of
Plymouth, Linda (Dennis) Wieck of Elkhart Lake, Bernice Flunker of
Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jill Flunker of the town of Mitchell. She is also
survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Norman Matzdorf; brother,
Lloyd Matzdorf; fathers-in-law, Alfred Flunker and Roger Mueller;
brothers-in-law, Tony Schinabeck, Norman Horneck, Dick Flunker, Wally
Flunker, Roger Shovan and Willie Jensen Jr; and dephews, Ron Schneider and
Danny Flunker.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at Salem
United Church of Christ in Plymouth. The Rev. James Hoppert, pastor of the
church, will officiate and cremation will follow the services. Relatives
and friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Wednesday,
June 15, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the chruch on Thursday from 10 a.m.
until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Sherry’s
name.
