Alex J. Bales

Alex J. Bales, 94, of West Bend died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.

He was born June 23, 1916, in the town of Trenton to the late Frank and Agnes (nee Bahr) Bales, and married Marie E. Pastors on Nov. 16, 1940, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church in Barton. Marie preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2004.

Alex was an employee of Mobil Oil for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was active in Boy Scouts for more than 25 years. He enjoyed camping, woodworking and gardening. Alex was a long-time member of the Fr. Casper Rehrl Council 1964 Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his five children, Nancy Bales of Cleveland, David (Linda) of West Bend, Richard (Marilyn) of West Bend, Bonnie (Tom) Conway of West Bend and John (Mary Beth) of West Bend; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Sylvia (Eugene) Belunes of West Bend; his brother, Franklin (Margaret) Bales of West Bend; two brothers-in-law, Walter Hoeft and Robert Hoeft, both of West Bend; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Alex is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Agnes Bales; his wife, Marie; two brothers, Raymond and Sylvester; and two sisters, Delores Hoeft and Rosalie Hoeft.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Haines presiding. Burial will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Angels Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at the church only from 4 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Frances Cabrini Education Fund, Cedar Community Hospice or the Threshold are appreciated.
