Edward L. Podjaski

Edward L. Podjaski, 78, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at his residence at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

He was born on July 16, 1932, in Milwaukee, to the late Edward and Gertrude (nee Wertschnig) Podjaski. Ed attended school in Milwaukee, graduating from Messmer High School with the Class of 1950.

On Aug. 1, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Kadow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Milwaukee. Mary Ann predeceased July 20, 1988.

In 1954 Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army. Being a carpenter by trade, he joined forces in the rebuilding of Europe after the end World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin, and his family moved to the Hubertus/ Richfield area. In 1966, the family settled in Jackson.

Ed became a member of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, retiring as an honorary member. In 1988, he joined the Jackson Memorial Post No. 7240 VFW, becoming a life member in 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Mike of Random Lake and Mark (Julie) of Campbellsport; a granddaughter, Marisa of Random Lake; a sister, Marion Wild of Fredonia; a brother, Louis of Tomahawk; Marge Gasper, who was a close friend from the VA home; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Jackson. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of the services. Burial of the cremated remains will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 11, in Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King in Ed Podjaski's name.
