Helen F. Berghammer, 97


Helen F. Berghammer (nee Rohlinger), 97, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Wellington Place in Hartford.

Helen was born April 16, 1913, to Frank and Julia (nee Becker) Rohlinger in Woodland. She was united in marriage to Walter Berghammer on July 27, 1938, at Holy Hill. He preceded her in death Jan. 27, 1995.

Helen grew up in Woodland and worked at Daniels General Store until her marriage. After their marriage she moved with her husband to the farm in Neosho. In 1946 they moved to Woodland where they owned and operated Berghammers Tavern until they retired in the early 1980s. She’s fondly remembered for serving lunch to her customers and especially her homemade bread. Helen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.

Helen is survived by her three daughters, Donna (Wayne) Neu of Neosho, Diane (Wilfred) Gutschenritter of Hartford and Darlene (Don) Braunschweig of Woodland; 13 grandchildren, Laurie (Mike) Ehrlich, Patricia (John) Schwendimann, Michael (Mary) Neu, Kenneth (Jodie) Neu, Karen (Don) Zenner, JR (Bridgette) Neu, Edward (Julie) Gutschenritter, David Gutschenritter, Robert (special friend, Kellie Ann) Gutschenritter, Gloria (David) Wicklund, Jennifer (Harry) Chadli, Jason (Vikki) Braunschweig and Joel (Kelly) Braunschweig; 25 great-grandchildren Michael and Christine Ehrlich, Kurt (Michelle), Eric (Sara) and Heidi Schwendimann, Elizabeth Neu, Callie and Conner Neu, Katie and Jacob Zenner, Julianna and Braden Neu, Lauren and Alex Gutschenritter Zachary, Madison and Ella Wicklund, Sophia, Zaynab, and Amina Chadli, Alex and Emma Braunschweig, Kayla and Max Braunschweig; one great-great-grandson, Joseph Ehrlich; great-granddaughter-in-law, Lizzie Ehrlich; and her sisters-in-law, Angeline Berghammer and Lydia Berghammer. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; granddaughter, Christine Neu; great grandson, James Ehrlich; brother, Harold (Molly) Rohlinger; and her sister. Lucille (Lee) Jentges.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodland with the Rev. Alois Van Beek officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Shimon Funeral Home on Sunday, March 13, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Woodland.
