Luella Espen, 91 

Luella Espen (nee Alfson), 91, West Bend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2011 at Cedar Community. 

Luella was born on Dec. 25, 1919 to Albert and Mary (nee Olsen) Alfson in Cato, Wis. She graduated from Valder’s WI High School. She was wed to the late C.W. “Inky” Espen in 1940 and they enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage. The couple moved from Manitowoc to West Bend in 1963. Luella was employed at JCPenny for many years. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in West Bend and was very active with the Love and Work Group. 

Luella was a loving mother of Beverly (James) Mehring and Barbara (Robert) Sauer. She was a proud grandmother of six and great-grandmother of 10. She is further survived by her dear sister-in-law Doris Espen, many relatives and friends, as well as her Park Place Condominiums family in West Bend where she lived since 1985. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband “Inky,” four sisters, two brothers and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

A memorial service celebrating Luella’s life will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 14 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1044 S. Silverbrook Dr., West Bend, with the Rev. Darin Wiebe presiding. Visitation will be at the church only on Monday, March 14 from 2 p.m. until time of service. Preferred memorials to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
