Ruth Carrie Graven


Ruth C. Graven, 90, formerly of Oostburg, died Saturday night, March 19, 2011, at Virginia Highlands in Germantown where she had resided for the past year.

Ruth was born on Oct. 12, 1920, the daughter of the late William and Lucile (nee Birkett) Meyer. She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1938. On May 9, 1941, she married the late Raymond Graven in Oostburg. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1969.

Ruth was a member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and playing cards.

She is survived by her son, James (Mary) Graven of West Bend; three grandsons, Corey (Tammy) Graven of West Bend, Patrick Graven of Jackson and Troy (Teresa) Graven of Horicon; four greatgrandchildren, one sister, Juanita Simmelink of Peoria, Ariz.; and brother, Kenneth Meyer of Cedar Grove.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Russell (Virginia) Meyer; a sister-in-law, Viola Meyer; and one b ro t h e r- i n - l aw, Harley Simmelink.

Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25, with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the town of Holland. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

A memorial fund is being established in her memory for the First Reformed Church in Oostburg.
